Broadway Macau Food Festival Unveils a Culinary Journey Through Decades of Tradition and Flavor

Saturday, October 26, 2024

The Broadway Macau Food Festival has officially opened at Broadway Macau™, bringing a feast for the senses with over 30 beloved brands, each steeped in history and culinary heritage. Curated by Galaxy Macau™ Integrated Resort (“Galaxy Macau”), the festival showcases cherished delicacies: century-old dried fruits, shrimp paste crafted through three generations, Macau’s iconic egg waffles enjoyed for more than seven decades, and classic ice cream with an 80-year legacy. This celebration invites local SMEs to share Macau’s rich food culture, transforming Broadway Food Street into a vibrant destination filled with culinary treasures, unique souvenirs, check-in spots, and live performances. In line with the Macao SAR Government’s “Tourism+” initiative, the festival will run from today through November 10, every Friday to Sunday evening, providing locals and tourists with an unforgettable journey through Macau’s culinary legacy.

As the evening began, Mr. Cheng Wai Tong, Acting Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, and Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of Galaxy Entertainment Group, inaugurated the festival, enhancing the festive atmosphere with traditional Portuguese dance performances. In his opening remarks, Kevin Kelley shared his gratitude, emphasizing GEG’s dedication to supporting local SMEs through its “Large Businesses Leading Small Businesses” model. He highlighted the festival’s mission to celebrate Macau’s designation as a “UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy,” balancing tradition and innovation while supporting the Macao SAR Government’s “1+4” diversification strategy to fuse tourism with gastronomy.

This year, the festival spans three weekends—October 25-27, November 1-3, and November 8-10—offering a gastronomic journey through Macau’s storied flavors. The array includes iconic names such as Tong Iec Pak Fa Fui, revered for dried fruits and sauces; Porthos Macau, a sardine brand known far and wide; Kong Hing Loong Shrimp Sauce, maintaining its traditional methods; Cheng Chau Chou Kei’s preservative-free coffee; Chak In Kee’s classic Macau egg waffles; Lai Kei’s nostalgic ice cream; Feng Ji’s Pork Trotter and Ginger; and Soi Lou Weng’s famous crab rice. The event also introduces rising stars like The Matcha Cafe Maiko, which brings Uji’s renowned matcha from the 160-year-old Himawari no Sato farm in Hawaii.

As dusk falls each evening around 6 pm, Broadway Food Street pulses with the sounds of live street music, featuring local bands and singers who set the stage for a lively experience. Visitors can try their luck at the claw machine challenge, with enticing prizes for the fortunate. For Galaxy Prestige members who register on WeChat and make qualifying purchases, exclusive rewards await. Before the night ends, guests can capture the moment at the iconic Portuguese-tiled wall, a symbol of Macau’s rich heritage, making memories alongside a vast selection of cherished treats that bring Macau’s vibrant flavors to life.
